Nissan’s Titan full-size pickup has carved out a comfortable niche for itself in the highly competitive truck market by sticking to light-duty, half-ton trucks instead of competing with the heavy-duty juggernauts from Ford, GMC and Ram. The increase in capability among light-duty pickups hasn’t been lost on Nissan, however, and the Titan plans to answer the introduction of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel with a diesel powerplant of its own when the next-generation Titan debuts.
Nissan confirmed that a 5.0 liter Cummins turbodiesel V8 will be offered in the next Titan along with a conventional gasoline engine. Power estimates of 300 horsepower and over 500 pound-feet of torque have been released, though final specifications and release dates aren’t yet available. Both the Cummins engine and the Titan are U.S.-built.
