OnStar’s RemoteLink remote telemetry app is now available to users of all four major smart phone platforms, including iPhone, Blackberry, Android and even Microsoft Windows phones with Windows Phone 7 and 8 operating systems. Microsoft customers will be able to purchase this technology on their mobile devices in the Windows Phone Store.
The OnStar RemoteLink Mobile App gives owners the ability to access vital vehicle information, including tire pressure, fuel status and oil life. Almost all GM models now have the RemoteLink Mobile App available, and to date it has been downloaded in excess of 1.7 million times. The app is diversity-friendly, available in both US and Canadian English as well as French Canadian and Spanish.
With the Windows Phone being the newest addition to GM’s RemoteLink family, it’s important to note that it was written with the latest HTML5 technology, just like with the Blackberry. Among its long list of features, log-in is secure, requiring a username, password and 4-digit PIN in order to make vehicle commands remotely.
GM will also offer key-fob related RemoteLink features standard on all new GM models for 5 years. These include remote lock and unlock, remote start, lights and horn use on select Windows phones.
According to GM’s Director of Application Development, Global Connected Consumer, Steve Schwinke, “RemoteLink remains one of our subscribers’ most desired OnStar services, so to be able to offer it across all of the major smartphone platforms is a great step for us. RemoteLink is one of the most-used automotive manufacturer apps in the market place and is a great example of what you can do with built-in vehicle connectivity.”
