Nissan’s second-generation Rogue compact crossover has been spotted testing in camouflage throughout the year, but the wraps have now come off on the new vehicle. The updated Rogue shows off extravagant style inspired by its bigger brothers the Pathfinder and Murano, and adds new functionality as well as a much wider range of optional equipment.
As the second-best seller in Nissan’s North American lineup, the Rogue is an important vehicle, so the manufacturer is pulling no punches. The new exterior look borrows the strong tapered hood and grille from the Pathfinder, while adding LED daytime running lights and available LED headlights. Major upgrades to the interior have been made, in keeping with the trend of compact vehicles adding more luxury features. The Rogue now features available three-rows seating, a “Divide ‘n Hide” cargo management system, and improved headroom. The rear seats can now be adjusted fore and aft to improve legroom. Nissan’s NissanConnect infotainment system, the 360-degree Around View Monitor, a blind-spot warning system and collision warning system are also offered.
Power is provided by a 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine making 170 horsepower, and Nissan’s latest Xtronic continuously variable transmission is standard. The front-wheel drive Rogue will return 33mpg on the freeway. The CVT has been tweaked to provide more natural engine braking, and the Rogue’s good manners are ensured by stability control, four-wheel disc brakes, the available all-wheel drive system and Active Ride Control.
That’s pretty impressive for a relatively affordable compact crossover. Rogue pricing starts at $22,490 for the base front-wheel drive model. All wheel drive is available at $23,840, and a fully loaded Rogue will price out somewhere in the low 30s.
