Visitors to the Lime Rock Park Historic Festival last week were treated to a rare showing of some unique Maseratis. Courtesy of collector Lawrence Auriana, four historically significant vehicles with ties to Maserati were displayed over the weekend.
The ex-factory 1928 Maserati Tipo 26 B/M 8C Grand Prix car on display has the distinction of being possibly the oldest running Maserati in the world, while a Tipo 300 S was driven to victory twice by Juan Manuel Fangio and once by Stirling Moss. The first A6 GCS was also on display; one of Maserati’s most successful racers, this particular car finished on the podium every time it was campaigned except once, even racking up a first in class finish at the Mille Miglia. Maserati took the opportunity to shoot a “family photo” with the Tipo 300 S and a new GranTurismo MC.
Most noticeable of the vehicles Auriana displayed was an ex-Maserati Formula One Team Transporter, used from 1953-57. The fully restored race hauler was used to carry seven crew members and a pair of Maserati 250F racers all over Europe.
