Infiniti’s new Q30 crossover concept bowed this week at the Frankfurt IAA. Leave it to Infiniti to blur the line between crossover and sport coupe even further. The original FX was equal parts crossover and muscle car, and with the new Q30 concept Infiniti is applying the same extravagant brush to a compact crossover.
The Q30 shows off curvy, muscular lines that blend coupe, crossover and hatchback elements into a single multi-purpose performance vehicle. It’s a hint at the next step in Infiniti’s design evolution, of course. The leaping-cat aspect is taken to extremes here, with a dramatic, long hood and sweeping curved body sides with wheels pushed out to the corners. The Q30 is a precursor to Infiniti’s new compact premium crossover, designed with Director of Performance Sebastian Vettel at the helm.
The Q30 Concept’s very finished-looking interior features a unique asymmetrical layout with two-tone upholstery and LED mood lighting in the dash and footwells. It wraps around the passengers like a cocoon, rather than a sterile cockpit. The leather and metal trim inside are crafted with a range of different finishes for a custom-built look.
As a potential replacement for Infiniti’s current premium-compact crossover, the Q30 concept looks like a winner, carrying the brand’s extravagant, organic spirit forward. Stay tuned for more details as Driving Fans watches to see where Infiniti takes this.
