Vehicular tributes to summer time and warm weather are common, but celebrating winter is a bit less common. Jeep’s go-anywhere spirit presents the opportunity to enjoy all four seasons, however, and that’s the aim of the new limited-edition Jeep Wrangler Polar Edition. First introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Wrangler Polar Edition goes on sale this November.
As with other Wrangler special editons, the Polar Edition features a striking unique color and badging, in this case a three-color hood decal and “Polar” badge with the coordinates of Vostok, Antarctica, where the world’s coldest temperature was recorded (that would be 128.56 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, a temperature at which you would not want to be having to scrape ice off the windows). A choice of blue, white and silver exterior hues is accented by black eighteen-inch wheels and blacked-out trim, as well as Jeep’s Powerdome hood and a body-colored hardtop. It’s available in two-door and four-door Unlimited body styles.
Heated seats are standard, of course, along with “Polar” logos and white accent stitching. White trim brightens the interior on the dash vents and grab bars.
As for the hardware, the Polar Edition is a Wrangler Sahara at heart, which means a 285-horsepower 3.6 liter V6 under the hood and a choice of six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmissions. Dana 30 front and Dana 44 rear axles are standard, with a Command-Trac NV241 part-time two-speed transfer case and a locking anti-spin rear differential. An electronic rear locker is also available.
With a few accessory ski and snowboard racks, the Wrangler Polar Edition is ready for a wintertime expedition. Just be sure to pack plenty of survival rations!
