Not all collector-car auctions are about greed. Ford recently sent its 2014 Mustang Cobra Jet prototype across the block at Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas sale for $200,000. The no-reserve auction benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The Mustang is powered by a supercharged 5.0 liter V8 and is legal to compete in NHRA events thanks to its 8.50 ET certified roll cage, racing wheels and suspension, “wheelie” bar, lightweight brakes and T4 transmission. The car was built as the prototype of the2014 racer.
In addition to the car, the anonymous winning bidder also receives driver training at Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School in NC, a video of the vehicle build and “backstage passes” to the Ford Product Development Center, design studio and Ford Racing.
“We cannot be more grateful to the entire team at Ford Motor Company for their tireless work for our cause,” said Elana Sullivan, president of the Michigan Chapter of the National MS Society. “Because of the incredible outcome of this auction, we will be able to move even closer to creating a world free of MS.”
