North American consumers got a first look at Infiniti’s next all-new product this week, as the Q30 Concept was shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show. First seen a few months back in Frankfurt, the Q30 Concept is a lightly-disguised model of the sporty premium compact that Infiniti plans to launch shortly.
Looking at a glance like a truncated Q50, the Q30 features a curvy, high-silled hatchback body with long front fenders. It sits just a touch higher than a car, enough to put it into “crossover” territory if one is throwing labels around. The Q30 Concept’s interior features a unique, asymmetric design that emulates Infiniti’s “dual wave” exterior design. High-contrast materials and bronzed trim create a highly stylized yet inviting interior.
Infiniti hopes that the Q30 Concept (and its production model) will capture the attention of younger buyers. A production version will launch early in 2015, according to Michael Bartsch, vice-president of Infiniti Americas. “The Q30 Concept has a compact footprint geared to the global trend of younger customers entering the premium sector in search of a product that suits their urban lifestyle,” Bartsch said. “The concept’s vision is to be the alternative to the practicality and conformity in the compact car segment.”
