If you were holding out for just the right moment to pick up your Mercedes SLS AMG GT, that moment may have come. Mercedes unveiled the FINAL EDITION of the gullwinged supercar at simultaneous events at the Los Angeles and Tokyo auto shows. This car will be limited to 350 units and represents the last of the SLS AMG’s model run. We’re going to miss the gullwing.
It’s a fair bet that AMG will, too; in addition to being the flagship of the AMG lineup, the SLS AMG was the first car to be designed from the ground up by Mercedes’ in-house performance experts, and the only AMG product not based on an existing Mercedes car.
The SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION (yes, Mercedes likes its caps lock key) features a carbon fiber hood, front splitter and rear spoiler, reducing weight and adding visual distinction. These downforce-increasing aerodynamic aids help improve the car’s track capability. Painted AMG wheels and red brake calipers are also a part of the package. The FINAL EDITION is available as a hardtop or roadster.
Inside, a unique “designo” styling package with diamond-stitched leather is unique to the FINAL EDITION. Numbered production badges are mounted on the dash, which also gets Alcantara and silver-stitched detailing. The 6.3 liter V8 still produces 583 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, and the SLS AMG GT has a top speed of 197 mph. AMG’s seven-speed SPEEDSHIFT DCT-7 transmission handles the task of getting the power to the road.
