When it comes to the phrase, “They don’t make ’em like they used to,” this is never more true than with the Ford Model T. Ford’s revolutionary car may have put America on wheels, but it also featured a unique three-pedal drive system that set it apart from many other cars on the road at the time–and from any modern cars. A select few enthusiasts know the secrets of driving a Model T. Fortunately, there are some experts willing to share their knowledge. The Gilmore Classic Car Museum, located in Hickory Corners, MI, began offering Model T driver’s ed classes last year, and they’ll continue this year.
The class teaches adults how to start and drive the model T. Hands-on instruction is included, using authentic Model Ts from the Gilmore’s collection. The museum plans to offer the classes on select dates from May-September 2014. Cost is $85 for museum members and $95 for non-members.
The Gilmore Museum also offers outreach to younger enthusiasts, with free admission for school groups and discounted youth rates. The museum also offers discounted family rates for museum attendance. Jay Follis, the museum’s director of marketing, said, “Gilmore Promise” represents the Gilmore Car Museum’s commitment to making learning exciting and accessible to everyone in the community, giving families and educators alike the ability to experience and visit the Museum, when they may not have had the means to before.” Learn more about the Gilmore’s programs at the museum’s website.
