The Dakar Rally Raid may no longer pass through the city that it’s named for, having moved to South America in 2009, but it’s still going strong as one of the world’s most grueling and challenging motorsports events. It’s also a great way to get a motorsports fix while Formula One, NASCAR, Indycar and World Rally are done for the season. Monster Energy’s X-raid team won the event in 2012 and 2013, and the team has released a teaser of what’s in store for the race in 2014. Monster Energy returns to the Dakar Rally Raid with four twin-turbo MINI Countryman models in January.
The race begins January 4, and will pass through Argentina, Bolivia and Chile, covering 9,374 kilometers in thirteen days.
Check out team leader Stephane Peterhansel as he puts the Monster Energy MINI’s 516-pound-feet of torque through its paces in the Sahara desert.
