Driving Fans’ recent trip to the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association’s annual show in Louisville, KY, was eye-opening in terms of showing us just how opulent today’s motorhomes can really be. You’ll sometimes see the big 45-foot, bus-style RVs rolling down the freeway, but it’s still amazing just how well-equipped these rigs really are. We picked our top five, naturally, and anyone of them will allow you to travel in high style.
This ain’t camping by any stretch of the imagination. Traveling by motorhome is much more like having a rolling vacation home than “roughing it.” These vehicles aren’t just mobile sleeping rooms; available equipment includes gas fireplaces, washing machines, dishwashers, full-sized showers in the bathrooms (of which there are sometimes two) and full-length leather couches in space-expanding slide-outs. The bus-style chassis have powerful diesel engines that run smoothly and quietly, regardless of the altitude. Here are the top five high-dollar motorcoaches we had the chance to check out in Lousiville:
1. American Tradition by American Coach: This is the one that I’d take home if I could. The American Tradition offers a central vacuum system, a choice of 40- or 46-inch LED televisions and glazed porcelain tile floors.
2. Tiffin Allegro Bus: The Allegro Bus is one of the most luxurious RVs available. This high-tech mansion on wheels adds cameras all around the vehicle for easier maneuvering, as well as an optional fridge/freezer in the basement. Yes, in the basement.
3. Entegra Coach Anthem: The Entegra Anthem starts at a slightly lower price point, but is no less opulent. Real tile floors, satin-nickel fixtures, hardwood cabinets and a king-size mattress provide a lush environment in which to get away from it all.
4. Jayco Seneca: The Seneca is what’s known as a “Super C,” a Class C motorhome based on a medium-duty truck chassis. They’re popular thanks to a 10,000-pound towing capacity, and although it’s a bit shorter than the bus-type motorhomes, it’s just as luxurious.
5. Monaco Dynasty: Monaco debuted its 2015 Dynasty in Lousiville. The new coach rides on am all-new chassis and offers features like an integrated navigation system, 50-inch television, LED-lit awnings and two-zone heated floors.
