Audi’s new A3 is coming for 2015, bringing a new level of sophistication to the brand’s most compact offering. Pricing for the smallest Audi sedan has been set at $29,900 for the 1.8 TFSI and $32,900 for the 2.0 TFSI.
The sub-$30,000 pricing may have been prompted by the Mercedes CLA-Class, which gives Audi’s rival premium-compact bragging rights. With more young buyers turning toward premium brands, there’s been a degree of sticker shock, now that cars like the A3 and CLA-Class find themselves indirectly in competition with Volkswagen, MINI, Buick and others. Pricing the A3 competitively with other premium compacts is a strategic move that will pay off if this car provides the proper amount of Audi-ness.
Price aside, the new A3’s a handsome little vehicle, styled like a downsized A4 and sharign many features with its larger siblings. Leather upholstery is standard, as is a panoramic glass sunroof. Available amenities include a Bang & Olufsen sounds system, Audi’s MMI infotainment system, LED headlights and keyless entry.
Under the hood, a choice of 2.0 liter or 1.8 direct-injection four-cylinder engines is offered. Quattro all-wheel drive is also available, and six-speed automatic transmissions handle shifting duties. Expect handling and ride to be up to Audi’s high standards as well. Arriving as an early 2015 model, the A3 line will expand to include a convertible, a diesel, a high-performance S3 sedan and a Sportback-bodied hybrid that’s due to arrive in 2015.
