After a couple of low-profile years at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Nissan is back in full force for 2014, with an all-new concept sedan and the Stateside debuts of its IDx concepts happening in January. The Sport Sedan Concept has been teased, but we’ll have to wait until January for the whole story.
Nissan says the Sport Sedan Concept embodies a new design direction, and the fender visible in the teaser photo does indeed hint at an extravagant vehicle to come. The car should provide a hint as to where Nissan’s taking its design in the future. Based on what we can see in the photos, there will be some influence from the current Juke crossover as well. Nissan says it will be applying more of its sports car principles to sedans going forward.
Joining the Sport Sedan Concept on the stand in Detroit will be the IDx Freeflow and IDx NISMO concepts that debuted in Tokyo in November. The two cars are different takes on a proposed sporty compact coupe that takes influence from classic Japanese sport coupes and video games. The IDx NISMO features strong racing influences, while the IDx Freeflow, built on essentially the same body, is an exploration of a more lifestyle-focused vehicle.
The cars will be unveiled at Nissan’s official press conference on January 13, and we’ll have more details and photos for you then! Stay tuned.
