As previously announced, Volkswagen’s new electric Golf debuted in Detroit. The gasoline-free Golf is powered by a 115-horsepower electric motor that takes the place of the four-cylinder engine. The high-torque electric motor provides 199 pound-feet of torque and respectable acceleration. The driver can select between three levels of regenerative braking strength, and three energy-saving driving profiles. Range is between 70 and 90 miles, but there’s no word on if VW will offer a range-extender that will make the e-Golf useful outside of large urban areas.
The e-Golf is one of the more conservative electrics out there, but sharp eyes will spot the aerodynamic wheels and C-shaped LED daytime running lights.
