Dodge’s Journey has been a well-received and fast-selling crossover that’s almost invisible
on the road, and Dodge is looking to raise its curb appeal. At the Chicago Auto Show, we’ll
get our first look at the new Dodge Journey Crossroad. The Crossroad’s a new model for
2015, and has been created through the time-honored trick of beefing up a suburban vehicle,
the better to prepare it for light off-road duty. The Journey crossover’s SUV-like body and
good road manners make it a natural for this treatment, and the Journey Crossroad is
prepared to get dirty.
Well, not that dirty, considering that all-wheel drive is optional. But the Crossroad model
does look the part. The looks have been toughened up with dark-tinted headlights and
taillights, a unique front fascia with a faux chrome brush bar and blackout nineteen-inch
wheels, giving the Crossroad a bit more distinction. It works; the Journey Crossroad is
much more distinctive than the standard version, with more of a multi-purpose wagon look.
Interior appointments are upgraded with leather seats, unique accent stitching, “Liquid
Graphite” trim appliques and the Journey’s premium options, including Uconnect with an 8.4-
inch touchscreen. The Journey’s three-row seating has room for a total of seven passengers,
and a fold-flat front seat with a storage bin beneath is standard.
Underpinnings are shared with the standard Journey as well. Powertrain choices include a
2.4 liter four-cylinder with 173 horsepower with a four-speed automatic, and a 3.6 liter V6
producing 283 horsepower with a six-speed auto. All-wheel drive is available. Anti-lock
brakes and electronic roll mitigation ensure that the Journey is a confident and secure do-
all.
It’s the same multi-purpose Dodge crossover we’ve gotten to know, now with extra
versatility to highlight its relationship to the hard-working Durango. Pricing for the Journey Crossroad has been set by $24,995.
