Nissan really, really wants to be your go-to manufacturer for taxicabs. With the NV200 taxi making inroads in New York, Nissan took the opportunity to remind another of America’s big taxicab markets of what the NV200 has to offer by painting it in Chicago’s distinctive green and white livery. Nissan’s hoping to get a few NV200’s into the city’s fleet of over 7000 taxis.
The Nissan NV200 taxi offers reading lights, odor-absorbing headliners, lots of legroom and passenger space, and USB chargers for passengers, as well as anti-fatigue seats and a navigation system for the drivers. It’s the only taxi that’s been crash-tested with its partition in place, as well.
Taxi companies don’t have to be in New York or Chicago to add the NV200 to their fleets, of course. It’s on sale now, with a starting price of $29,700.
“With great feedback from drivers, riders and media in New York, we’ve had a number of dealers across the country raise their hands to get a supply of NV200 taxis for cities such as Seattle, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and across Texas. We think Chicago is a natural fit for the premium taxi experience NV200 delivers at a competitive price,” said Fred Diaz, senior vice president of Nissan Sales & Marketing.
