Pininfarina’s collaboration with BMW resulted in the gorgeous Gran Lusso Coupe, revealed earlier this year at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2013. The graceful re-imagining of BMW’s sport-coupe tradition has caught the eye of the German Design Council as well as car fans, netting the car a Special Mention award in the council’s German Design Awards for 2014.
A panel of thirty judges, consisting of design experts from a variety of disciplines, selected the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe for honors in the Transportation and Public Space category. The awards will be presented during the Ambiente trade fair in Frankfurt on February 7, 2014.
BMW and Pininfarina represent two very different automotive disciplines: BMW is known for powerful sports cars with muscular lines and a purposeful look, while Pininfarina’s graceful, delicate automotive designs exude Italian fashion. The BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe blends these two disparate elements into a futuristic yet familiar interpretation of BMW’s 4-Series coupe.
