In October, Toyota Prius lost the number-one spot for sales of plug-in vehicles to the Ford C-MAX Energi and Ford Fusion Energi.
While Toyota sold a notable amount of Prius plug-in vehicles at 2,095 units in October, Ford sold a more impressive 34% of the plug-in hybrid market at 2,179 C-MAX Energi and Fusion Energi vehicles.
Ford broke record 1,508 plug-in vehicles in September, which makes means October’s record 45% higher than the former. October is the best month ever for sales of Fusion Energi and C-MAX Energi. Ford’s plug-in market is doing astoundingly well considering that the C-MAX Energi was introduced only a year ago and it hasn’t been quite a year for the Fusion Energi.
California leads in purchases of Ford plug-in hybrid sales at 38%, but sales are greatly increasing all over the US market. 32% of C-MAX Energi and 34% of Fusion Energi sales are in Boston, Chicago, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. combined. New York is edging toward beating the second most popular market for Fusion Energi, San Francisco.
So far 39,083 plug-in hybrid vehicles have been sold through October, up 32% year-to-date.
Based on data collected by MyFord Mobile, through September Ford plug-ins are traveling around 203,000 gas-free miles every day, which translates into 8,400 electric miles an hour. This number is ever growing and gaining speed.
