After testing for months in Australia and teasing the car in Sweden, Volvo has finally pulled the wraps off of its S60 and V60 Polestar performance models. And the best news about these bright blue AWD sports sedans? We’re going to get them here in North America as well.
There was some doubt as to if the hottest Volvos would make the Atlantic crossing, but Volvo has confirmed that the S60 and V60 Polestar will indeed make it to our shores. For Volvo fans, this means a series of comprehensive performance upgrades to the latest-generation sedan and wagon, performed by the Swedish marque’s well-known performance supplier.
A new twin-scroll turbocharger gives the T6 straight-six engine a renewed boost, taking output to 350 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. An intercooler and a massive 2.5-inch exhaust have also been added. The Polestar twins feature Haldex all-wheel drive and feature a paddle-shifted six-speed automatic transmission. Volvo reports a 4.9-second 0-100km/h time, and a top speed limited to 155mph.
To go with the power increase, stiffer springs and high-performance shocks have been installed. Larger brakes with Brembo six-piston calipers hare been installed and Polestar also adds unique twenty-inch wheels. The standard traction control has been recalibrated for a more enthusiast-friendly level of intervention.
All of this is applied to a pair of the handsomest Volvos in recent memory. The new S60 sports sho-car looks, while the V60 adds a touch of wagon-backed sophistication and versatility. In addition to the brilliant blue paint, the S60 and V60 Polestar are distinguished by redesigned air splitters at the front and a revised diffuser at the rear. Both have been tweaked for additional downforce, though the resemblance to track-ready cars doesn’t hurt either.
Volvo’s previous Polestar-accented models have been quite entertaining rides indeed, and we’re looking forward to the more extreme version of the new models. The Polestar S60 and V60 go on sale in June of 2014.
