The boom in the commercial vehicle market continues, as Ram announces an upcoming addition to its ProMaster lineup. The 2015 Ram ProMaster City will join the lineup next year as a compact alternative to the full-size ProMaster cargo van. Intended to compete with compact vans from Ford and Nissan, the ProMaster City is expected to spawn both commercial and passenger versions.
The new van is based on the Fiat Doblo, which is currently sold in Europe. The current version has been in production since 2009 and is well-received in both diesel and gasoline versions. Extended-wheelbase and high-roof versions are sold, and Fiat has produced electric versions as well. European sales have topped 1.3 million. Expect a face restyled to match the North American ProMaster and familiar powertrains when the ProMaster City goes on sale.
Reid Bigland, Ram Truck’s president and CEO, said, “Our successful relationship with Fiat Professional, one of the world’s foremost commercial truck manufacturers, gives Ram a competitive advantage with access to proven products and technology that will resonate with our U.S. and Canadian customers.”
