Believe it or not, Volkswagen has been in the luxury-SUV game for ten years now. The first Touareg hit the streets in 2003, and over 700,000 have been produced since then. To commemorate the milestone, Volkswagen is building the limited-edition Touareg X, with unique paint and special trim. Just 1000 will be built.
The Touareg X features unique Moonlight Blue Pearl paint. New nineteen-inc h wheels and LED taillights also distinguish it from the rest of the lineup. The interior is enhanced with Vienna leather seats and a black headliner. Ebony wood is used on the dash, with piano-black trim on the center console and aluminum trim on the doorsills and pedals. Ambient lighting keeps the mood elegant. Standard equipment on the Touareg X includes a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, a navigation system with an eight-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, heated seats and a backup camera.
Under the hood, Volkswagen’s 3.0 liter direct-injection turbodiesel V6 provides power to the tune of 240 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. A new eight-speed automatic transmission boosts freeway fuel economy to 29mpg, a startling figure for a vehicle this size. Volkswagen says the Touareg X has a freeway range of over 700 miles. 4MOTION all-wheel drive is standard, and the Touareg offers a higher level of off-road capability than its luxurious interior might suggest.
The limited-edition tenth anniversary Touareg goes on sale in 2014, with a starting price of $56,170. Want one of Volkswagen’s luxury SUV range-toppers? Better act fast.
