Paul Walker’s death last week at the age of 40 in a violent car crash has the auto enthusiast world saddened not just for the loss of a good man but also for a kindred spirit. The actor leapt to fame in 2001 in the role of Brian O’Conner in “The Fast and the Furious,” and helped bring a new generation of car guys to the screen. Walker was also a known car enthusiast himself. In an interview with AskMen before the release of “Fast and Furious 6,” he said, “For me cars are a passion that has become a real business. What is certain is that we will always remain part of my life. ”
Walker’s love of cars came in part from his grandfather, who was a racing driver. Walker had a collection of over thirty cars. He sought models that he really was passionate about including a 1974 BMW 2002 Touring. He also owned the famous blue Nissan Skyline R34 that appears in “Fast and Furious 4.”
In total the actor had four Skylines (R33 and R34), as well as a 1995 Toyota Supra , an E92 BMW M3, an E36 BMW M3 and a BMW CSL . Walker was also not shy about his love of muscle cars. His garage held almost a full set of 1964 Chevrolets, including an Impala, Malibu, Chevelle and Nova, as well as a 1967 Nova.
A YouTube tour of Walker’s collection is available.
The unfinished seventh installment in the “Fast and Furious” series was scheduled for release on July 11, 2014. Walker had not finished filming his scenes for the movie, which is expected to be delayed by rewrites and to allow the cast a period of mourning. Studio officials say that the film will not be scrapped, however.
