Chevrolet has announced its plans to reveal the 2015 Corvette Z06 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. The current ‘Vette debuted at the Detroit show a year ago, and so it’s only fitting that the track-capable version will follow in its footsteps.
The 460-horsepower Corvette sprints from 0-60 in under four seconds and pulls over 1g on the skidpad, making it capable of running with Porsche 911s and Audi R8s. With this in mind, it’s very likely that the enhanced Z06 will take it to supercar territory based on the powertrain, chassis and aerodynamic upgrades it will get.
Chevy has broadened its performance lineup hugely for 2014. The SS rear-drive performance sedan went on sale in October, and the new Camaro Z/28 will begin hitting dealers in the spring. The Camaro is also outselling its perennial arch-rival the Mustang as 2013 winds down with a 4,093-unit lead in total sales, according to Chevrolet. The new Corvette and Corvette Stingray Convertible are also selling briskly.
“Chevrolet is America’s favorite performance car brand, and for 2014 we are going to offer enthusiasts more choices than ever before,” said Alan Batey, senior vice president, Global Chevrolet. “No other manufacturer will be able to match the breath of performance cars from Chevrolet.”
