What better way to get into the holiday spirit than to create a wishlist of presents for our longterm BMW 335i? After all, modifying and personalizing your car is a gift that keeps on giving. Everything we could possibly want is located at the BMW Accessories web page. BMW offers a comprehensive lineup of upgrades for the 3-Series, from exterior aerodynamic components to interior mods to chassis and engine tuning parts.
Let’s start with the aerodynamics. First on our Christmas list is the BMW M Performance Aerodynamics Package, which features add-ons for the front bumper and a racing-style splitter that helps to optimize downforce. An M Performance rear spoiler in carbon fiber will complement the aero package nicely. Lastly, we’ll take a set of M Performance stripes. Covering the hood, roof and decklid, racing stripes are a time-honored performance car upgrade.
We’re going to keep our 335i purposeful, so the next step will be an upgraded exhaust. BMW’s M Performance Exhaust is calibrated for the 335i, and it’s a stainless steel system that reduces backpressure and provides a more sonorous engine note as well. Dual 80mm exhaust tips with an engraved M logo are visible at the rear.
If our 335i is going to sound meaner, it should be able to back that attitude up, so the next item in our Christmas stocking is BMW’s M Performance Power Kit. Retuned engine software and a performance air intake system help to boost horsepower to 320 and torque to 332 pound-feet. This shaves two-tenths of a second off of the 0-60 acceleration time, as well as adding a menacing burble to the exhaust. The M Performance Power Kit is also covered by the factory warranty.
Lastly, we want our Christmas list to address the handling. We’ll keep things simple, with a set of twenty-inch lightweight alloy wheels (Style 405M) and the M Performance Brake System. The wheels are the largest recommended by BMW, and feature a handsome double-spoke design. They’re mounted on Pirelli P Zero run-flats. The upgraded brake system uses four-piston Brembo calipers at the front and two-piston calipers at the rear. An M logo and red, yellow or orange paint help them to stand out. The discs are about an inch larger than stock, and they’re drilled, grooved and internally ventilated.
