While the crossovers in the family become more suburb-friendly, Toyota’s trucks remain tough and capable vehicles. The new TRD Pro Series trucks celebrate Toyota’s many years of experience with Baja off-road racing, as well as serving as a reminder that there’s more to Toyota than grocery-getters. The 4Runner, Tundra and Tacoma have been modified and upgraded with off-road performance in mind.
Some of the tweaks are obvious at a glance, especially the monochrome paint, unique grille and wheels. TRD Pro models are available in a choice of three colors, including a striking burnt orange called “Inferno.” A dual exhaust provides a more aggressive note to each truck, so everyone can hear you coming, and TRD adds unique interior trim as well.
Bilstein shocks and stiffer front springs are used on all of the TRD Pro trucks. The pickups are lifted two inches, the 4Runner about an inch and a half, and skid plates are standard of course. The Tacoma and Tundra feature decreased spring rates, improving the off-road ride, while the 4Runner’s suspension has been tweaked to allow an extra inch of wheel travel.
