Not only did Chrysler all but create the minivan segment, but for all of the thirty-plus years they’ve been around, Chrysler has led innovations in this market. Since 1983 when it introduced the first minivan, Chrysler has sold over 13 million minivans. They are responsible for 78 minivan firsts, such as the exclusive Stow-n-Go seating and segment-first Blu-ray rear-seat entertainment system. To celebrate their 30th anniversary, Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan will have special editions available starting this fall.
November 2, 1983 was the day the first Chrysler Group minivan rolled off the line at Windsor Assembly. This segment opened up the market for families everywhere, creating more space and convenience for children and storage. It’s no surprise that today these vehicles are still very much in demand, even after thirty years. Chrysler leads this segment year after year, by continuing to present quality vehicles with astounding innovations. Last year, the top selling minivan in the world was the Dodge Grand Caravan and along with the Chrysler Town & Country they accounted for almost 50% of the minivan sales in the United States in 2012.
Both the Caravan and the Town & Country are manufactured at Chrysler’s Windsor Assembly Plant in Windsor, Ontario.
