On September 16, 2013, the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant rolled its one millionth Cadillac off the assembly line. This automobile was an early 2014 CTS, which goes into production in Ocbober
Since its opening in 2001, the Lansing Grand River Plant, commonly known as LGR, has been a dedicated rear-wheel drive assembly plant. It’s the sole manufacturer of all CTS models.
The CTS sedan isn’t LGR’s only product, it also makes the CTS wagon and coupe, the ATS sport sedan and the CTS-V performance models. Lansing’s Cadillacs are sent to eleven global destinations.
Senior vice president Global Cadillac, Bob Ferguson, said, “On million Michigan-made Cadillacs is a great milestone for Lansing and for luxury car-building in America. Lansing Grand River is an essential ingredient of Cadillac’s growth. It is a benchmark for luxury manufacturing in North America, which takes another step forward today with the launch of the new CTS.”
LGR painted the 1 millionth Cadillac in Red Obsession Tintcoat. For 2014, the redesigned CTS will feature more luxury, even more technology and performance. Cadillac was able to make this car lighter by using more sophisticated design and materials, but still managed to make it larger and more roomy.
The Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant is a 2.5 million square foot factory situated upon 111 acres. It employs 1,541 workers split between two shifts. In 3 years GM has invested $88 million in the new CTS, and $190 million toward the production of the Cadillac ATS.
In the twelve years since its inception LGR has built more Cadillacs than any other Cadillac facility. Later this year, the ELR luxury coupe will start production at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck plant. The Escalade SUV is made in Arlington, TX at Arlington Assembly.
