The Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, is one of the world’s newest tracks, and the much-acclaimed speedway has been busy since the day it opened. This past weekend saw American LeMans action as part of the International Sports Car Weekend.
In the two-hour, forty-five minute feature race, the overall win was clocked by the #6 HPD ARX-03c of Muscle Milk Pickett Racing, driven by Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf. Luhr and Graf ran away from the rest of the field, completing 83 laps and lapping the field twice during the race which was run entirely under green. The #16 Lola B12/60 of Dyson Racing Mazda/Thetford/Norcold driven by Tony Burgess and Chris McMurry finished second, while the brand-new coupe version of the DeltaWing DWC-13 sneaked into third with Katherine Legge and Andy Meyrick at the wheel.
The race is the seventh consecutive victory for Luhr and Graf, and Luhr’s 48th win in ALMS.
In the ALMS GT class, the #3 Corvette C6 ZR1 of Compuware Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia held off the #56 BMW Z4 GTE of BMW Team RLL Crowne Plaza driven by John Edwards and Dirk Muller. Third place was claimed by the #93 Pennzoil SRT Viper GTS-R of Kuno Wittmer and Jonathan Bomarito.
The next ALMS race is the Oak Tree Grand Prix at Virginia International Raceway on October 5.
