With the runaway success of Buick’s small Encore tall wagon (also sold as the Opel Mokka in Europe), the folks in charge at the General Motors division believe they’ve hit upon a heretofore-unexploited luxury small-car niche. To that end, Driving Fans hears that a second small Opel-based product will be added to Buick’s stable. Sources indicate that it’s virtually a done deal that the 2013 Opel Adam, launched in Europe a few months back, will end up with a Buick crest when it arrives here in a year or two, but will likely be built at a North American plant. The two-door hatchback is roughly the same length as a Mini Cooper, only a bit wider. There’s no word on what powertrain it will come with, but the turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine used in the Encore is a strong possibility.
