Sometimes a car is so popular it continues to sell alongside its replacement, and it turns out that Nissan’s Rogue is about to join that club. The 2014 Rogue goes on sale in November, and rather than phasing out the current Rogue Nissan will continue production for an undetermined time. The current car will be renamed the Rogue Select, and its base price will drop to under $20,000 in January.
The Rogue is currently the second-biggest seller in Nissan’s lineup, with sales of 142,349 in 2012 and increasing since then. The compact crossover market is booming right now, and Nissan’s seizing the chance to offer an additional low-cost choice to customers. It’s a clever move, since the current Roge is hardly outdated and a shift in Rogue production has the new car being built in Smyrna, TN, while the Rogue Select will be produced at the Kyushu, Japan, plant.
