Zipcar, Inc., makes Detroit its 25th largest market in a major metropolitan area by expanding its local fleet to 40 cars. Zipcar is the leading car sharing network throughout the world and is a subsidiary of Avis. It provides over 30 different types of vehicles for use for the hour or day for business professionals to college students.
Imaginatively named vehicles such as “Belle Isle,” a Ford Mustang, “Martius,” a Ford Escape, and “Motor City,” a Ford Focus, are available.
Most of Zipcar’s Detroit fleet will be provided by Ford Motor Company. Ford has been its principal vehicle provider for universities since 2011. The companies work in concert to offer opportunities on a monthly basis for admirable student organizations within qualified Zipcar colleges. This helps support the enrollees through the Students With Drive program.
One can find the 40 Zipcars in and around Detroit in places such as private and public lots, and parking structures in the following neighborhoods: Woodbridge, Rivertown, New Center, Midtown, Hamtramck and Downtown. Also available on campus at Wayne State University and College For Creative Studies. Zipcar’s team was present at the Detroit Design Festival earlier this month.
The Zipcar For Business program offers driving rates at a discount Monday through Friday, which will be useful for employees of businesses local to Detroit. This is a great thing because it will help businesses meet environmental sustainability goals, save money, and employees will save on parking expenses.
Offering simplicity, flexibility and convenience, Zipcar’s daily and hourly rates consist of up to 180 miles of travel per day, roadside assistance, reserved parking spaces, insurance, and fuel. You can reserve one of its vehicles for multiple days, down to even as little as one hour. The 24 hour rate starts at $75 and hourly rates are as low as $9.
