Toyota has announced significant reductions in pricing for the Prius Plug-in Hybrid for the 2014 model year. The most efficient model in the Prius lineup is now over $2000 less expensive with a starting MSRP of $29,990.
Toyota hasn’t reduced the equipment levels to accommodate the price reduction. Heated front seats, remote climate control and an extended EV mode are all standard equipment on the Prius Plug-in. The upgraded Prius Plug-In Advanced sees a similar reduction, with its $34,905 starting price shaved by over $4000 from last year. The Prius Plug-in Advanced features a navigation system with Toyota’s Entune App Suite, a power driver’s seat, a head-up display and a JBL sound system. Radar-based cruise control, a pre-collision system and LED headlights are optional equipment.
Production of the 2014 Prius Plug-in begins in October, with the new pricing going into effect when the cars arrive in showrooms in November. The Prius Plug-in qualifies for a Federal Tax Credit of up to $2,500 in addition to the State of California’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Program (CVRP) which offers a $1,500 rebate. Information about the Federal Tax credit and vehicle eligibility can be found at the IRS’ website.
The 2014 Prius Plug-in is also eligible for the State of California’s HOV lane sticker which enables drivers to use the high-efficiency high-occupancy vehicle lanes. The Prius Plug-in is available in 15 states (California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and Hawaii).
