Hyundai’s revealed one more of the custom cars scheduled to appear on the stand at the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) show next month, and it’s one of the most exciting yet. Fox Marketing Cars was turned loose on the Veloster Turbo, and the result is a 370-horsepower beast that’s sure to give tuners some ideas in the year to come.
Major upgrades to the 1.6 liter direct-injection four-cylinder include an 845 Motorsports turbo upgrade, a Borg-Warner EFR turbocharger, front-mounted intercooler and a water/methanol injection system from AEM. SeoulfulRacing contributed an ECM upgrade, and when running on 101-octane fuel the output is nearly doubled over stock.
To keep all of that power manageable, Fox Marketing installed a strut brace and additional chassis bracing, as well as a coil-over suspension. Six-piston front calipers and massive 13.6-inch vented brake rotors offer improved braking ability. All of the upgrades to the Veloster are available as aftermarket pieces, as is common with SEMA vehicles.
The looks of the Veloster weren’t neglected either, though it’s already a hot-looking ride. A hand-mixed BASF paint color with the not-so-graceful name of “R-M Onyx HD Waterborne SkyAqua Pearl” drapes the exterior, accenting a custom front fascia and front spoiler. The foglights were borrowed from a Hyundai Genesis. The interior’s upgraded with Street Pro LE seats and Takata Drift III four-point harnesses.
“The Veloster Turbo was designed with affordable performance in mind,” said Scott Margason, director, product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Fox Marketing’s unique concept showcases the versatility of our turbocharged 4-cylinder Gamma engine family while expanding the overall performance envelope for the Veloster line.”
